Therapies & Services

Every individual who enters Foundations Recovery Centers care will receive an individualized treatment plan, based in our holistic, multidisciplinary approach towards treatment. Our treatment plan is made up of effective, evidence-based therapies, administered to each individual based around their personal story, strengths and goals as they build towards long term recovery. Much of the treatment engages group therapy, and throughout recovery you will be surrounded with individuals with similar problems, facing the same challenges, and seeking the same opportunities for change. It is during recovery where you will be provided with not only the tools and skills to overcome your addiction, but the knowledge and experience of how and when to uses these tools on your way to long term recovery.

Recreational Therapy

When clients aren’t at our facility, they have the choice to explore numerous therapeutic activities. These activities include trips to local attractions, such as Baltimore Museum of Art, as well as outdoor activities, such as hiking at Patapsco Valley State Park.

These trips have a social, spiritual and cultural focus. By allowing groups to explore local museums, art galleries or historical sites, they can relate these trips to exploration of self. Other therapeutic recreational activities include nature therapies, hikes and nature walks, which are a proven treatment that can ease stress and boost recovery.

You will also have the opportunity to go on outings with your groups, by taking a break from the intense aspects of recovery, we can learn to enjoy ourselves.

Expressive Therapy

Expressive Therapy is another modality that we employ as part of your treatment plan. Guided by your therapists, groups will get the opportunity to explore themselves by exploring the creative arts.

This type of expressive therapy helps you tap into and examine your addiction in a way that is not verbal. In company with the more traditional group therapies, we will help you engage with the creative arts in a manner designed to specifically address your needs

Group Therapy

At Foundations Recovery Center, we strongly believe that group therapy is the foundation of recovery. In group therapy, guided by our experienced and educated clinical staff, you will build an immediate community of people from the Baltimore area with the same goal as you, recovery.

At every step of treatment, you can rely on those around you as resources to create a strategy for success, learning and developing coping skills and strategies that will guide your long term recovery.

Trauma Focused

Addiction and trauma often go hand in hand, part of your therapeutic plan will be to address any underlying traumas head-on. It is our goal to help individuals to begin dealing with their trauma and spur recovery. Your individualized therapeutic plan will focus on addressing any trauma in your past, and our trained and experienced staff will modify and adapt your program to directly fit your needs.

Motivational Interviewing

Motivational Interviewing is a form of therapy that encourages the individual to examine how they can make steps towards positive change. The therapy focuses on individual strengths and motivations to start making positive changes and build positive skills on the way to recovery.

Motivational interviewing is based in positive affirmation. Living in the cycle of addiction can leave you feeling hopeless and helpless. Taking small steps towards regaining control of your life, with the support of our team and your group, is a first step towards regaining control.

Case Management

The cycle of addiction is often disruptive; you might face legal or professional issues stemming from your use. Your case manager will be your advocate, equipped with a wealth of knowledge specific to the Maryland, to help you tackle these issues.

Facing issues like bad credit or dealing with your criminal record can be daunting, but we will help.

Part of recovery is returning to a more normal, substantial life. During treatment you will have the opportunity to start working towards that; we encourage you to begin working, return to school, or start volunteering.

Family Therapy

Addiction is a family disease; we are committed to working with every client and their loved ones to help them create healthy strategies for healing, setting healthy boundaries and dealing with family issues head-on.

Upon starting any of Foundations levels of care, our staff will assess your family situation, your strengths and needs, and begin reaching out to loved ones when appropriate. We are dedicated to working with your family as a whole, emphasizing psycho-education, examining codependency and learning successful strategies to setting healthy boundaries. We are here to help you build a foundation for success.

Co-occurring Diagnosis

Co-occurring substance abuse issues and severe mental health disorders play a significant role in determining your treatment plan. If you need dual-diagnosis care, your treatment plan will be built around your specific mental health needs.

Severe mental health disorders can be debilitating; it is our priority at Foundations Recovery Center to give you access to all of the care you need. During each level of care you will have access to psychiatric care as well as the proper medications to keep you well.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, also known as CBT, is a widespread and well known tool used in addiction treatment. In the cycle of addiction, your brain’s reward circuits are malfunctioning, since you are using unhealthy coping methods like drugs or alcohol to deal with life. The focus of CBT at Foundations is to relearn healthy coping skills and to build necessary tools to engage with the stresses of life.

CBT sessions focus on active goals and strategies, designed around your personal needs, with a focus on providing structure and emphasizing direct plans of action.  Your therapist and the rest of Foundations clinical staff will work with you on your goals throughout your time at Foundations.

CBT is educational, focused on you learning effective, healthy and safe ways to identify and deal with stress or other triggers. As you move through treatment, these therapies will help you get used to dealing with stress in a positive manner, without resorting to unhealthy habits such as using drugs and alcohol.

Foundations Recovery Center will help you build the skills and experience you need once you exit treatment, including strategies to prevent relapse. The therapeutic techniques you learn, community you surround yourself with and network you build in the Baltimore area will be your strength.

As you progress through treatment, Foundations will focus on giving you a list of resources to use when confronting familiar or new stress out in the world. From inpatient to outpatient, your individual treatment program will address a healthy approach to long term success.
